[ while Stannis is not what anyone would call well-versed with emotions, he can certainly recognize that Jon Snow has strong feelings for the Targaryen girl. stronger than what he seemed to have shared with Ygritte, perhaps. but he cannot help but make one more comment on the matter. ]

[ was that a jape? with Stannis, it was difficult to tell. certainly, he would say that Jon has a far better chance than Victarion.
as for the other matters, it would seem the statues on Dragonstone remained just that. statues, and nothing more.

[He knows the protests he made when he was offered the chance to claim Winterfell and become Lord Stark. He was a different man then and his honor hadn't been completely tested. Abandoning the Night's Watch after having taken an oath, it was too much for his morals. It wasn't until he returned from the dead that he ceased to care and found the out that would sit well on his conscience.
Or maybe that was what he told himself to justify his actions and naive optimism?]
What?
[That shook him from the past, making his blood freeze under his skin. Petulantly, he wanted to add "I have already won her heart." But he held his tongue.]
Why do you say that?
[He'll never forget the cries of the dragons or the sight of Viserion closing his eyes as he sank beneath the ice. Gods, if he could take it all back, even if it won Cersei's help, he would.]
I know not if you know Victarion Greyjoy. [ though he supposes that Jon really should, as he was a member of a great house. be that as it may... they had established key differences. ] He told me that prior to the Storm taking our realm, he meant to win the Lady Targaryen's hand in marriage to conquer Westeros. When I spoke to him last, it would seem that he still has such a desire.
[ he gives a derisive snort, that could almost be a chuckle were it anyone other than Stannis Barahteon. ]
While he would certainly best you in a trial by combat, I do not believe he would in much else.
[ in other words, Jon Snow really needn't worry about such things.
although... ]
The Night's King? The tale of the 13th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch... [ or... ] Was this the leader of our true foes?
[ the latter seemed more likely, but considering the Others were meant to be little more than a myth themselves... ]
No, I don't know this Greyjoy. [He knew Euron and had seen his interest in Daenerys during the meeting in the Dragonpit, but he hadn't thought much of it. The man was looking for a reaction in much the same way Ramsay did. Victarion was a stranger to him, that made him more dangerous.] What sort of man is he? Is he anything like Theon or Euron?
[Though it was hard to say if Euron was even similar to the one that existed in Stannis' world.]
Daenerys isn't someone to win. She relies on herself and is stronger than anyone I have met before. If Victarion tries to use his help as leverage, he won't get anywhere with her. Everything she has, she has gotten on her own. I don't think that will change.
[Except now they would do it together...whatever they decided in this world and if he saw her again.]
Their leader. I don't know who he was before, only that he can raise the dead and increase his army.
Neither. He is more akin to Balon Greyjoy, if anything. [ and Stannis himself, if Stannis was perhaps slightly more dull. ] During the rebellion, he captained the Iron Fleet, and I defeated him.
[ a pause. ]
Truth be told, you have little to be concerned about.
[ he may understand little about women, but he understands enough that this girl would not be a good match for Victarion.
(though, he cannot help but wonder what he would have done should the Targaryen girl arrived on his shores) ]
And he brought down a dragon? If that came to pass... [ gods be good... ] it would seem that all the citizens of Westeros are far safer sleeping in the Thesa Station than in our realm.
[He only knew stories of Balon, but given his decision to invade the North shortly after Robb sent Theon to the Iron Islands, there isn't much good to think about him.]
He's persistent.
[That could be said for Balon and it wasn't what he wanted to hear about Victarion. Somehow though, Stannis manages to find the words to comfort Jon, much to his chagrin and embarrassment. His feelings were personal, but matters with Daenerys had gone so far that it was hard to conceal or ignore him, if he even bothered to try. It had to be a change, as Stannis knew him as a man who put duty first.]
I trust her. [Which was not something easily given for him.] She needs to wake first.
[The threat still managed to seize his heart and pour adrenaline through his veins. The Night King was gone, the Wights were gone, Westeros was gone, but that fear would stay with him until he met his final death.]
We thought we knew what the threat to the realm was. We didn't know it was the Storm.
[ though he too does feel that same failure. as to the Storm... ]
We will have to follow the counsel of our saviors, no doubt. At the very least, they seem to have knowledge of this enemy, which puts them in a better position than we were with the Others.

Perhaps it was better for the people of your Westeros that the Storm hit when it did. If the people were spared, then it was not all for naught.
